We are delighted to welcome Prof. Brian Cantor, Brunel University, United Kingdom, as a featured speaker at the 2nd Edition of the International Congress on Materials Science and Nanotechnology (M-Nano 2026).
π€ Presentation Title
“Complexityin Multicomponent High-Entropy Cantor Alloys”
Prof.
Brian Cantor is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Materials at the
University of Oxford and a Research Professor at the Brunel Centre for Advanced
Solidification Technology (BCAST), Brunel University. He is also Chief Editor
of the Springer-Nature journal High Entropy Alloys & Materials.
His
distinguished career includes leadership roles at the Universities of York,
Bradford, and Oxford, as well as research experience at General Electric
Research Labs in the USA and several international institutions. He has
contributed extensively to materials science and is known for pioneering the
field of multicomponent high-entropy alloys and discovering the Cantor
alloys.
π¬ About the Presentation
The
presentation will discuss the development of multicomponent high-entropy alloys
and the enormous composition space available for discovering new materials.
Particular attention will be given to the original equiatomic five-component CrMnFeCoNi
Cantor alloy and the complexity of local atomic configurations in these
materials.
The talk
will explore how local atomic arrangements influence important properties and
phenomena, including:
- Atomic diffusion
- Dislocation slip
- Recrystallisation
- Surface catalysis
- Electron transport
- Mechanical properties
- Corrosion resistance
- Radiation resistance
- Recycling and reuse of
materials
The
presentation will provide insights into the structure, thermodynamics,
complexity, and potential applications of high-entropy alloys.
