Meet Our Featured Speaker – Assoc. Prof. Jing Yang You | M-Nano 2026

We are pleased to welcome Assoc. Prof. Jing Yang You from Beihang University (BUAA), China, as a featured speaker at the 2nd Edition of theInternational Congress on Materials Science and Nanotechnology (M-Nano 2026).

🎤 Presentation Title

“Moiréexcitons in generalized Wigner crystals: A first-principles GW-BSE study”

Dr. Jingyang You is an Associate Professor at the International Frontier Interdisciplinary Science Institute, Beihang University. He received his Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2020 and subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at the National University of Singapore and the University of Southern California.

His research focuses on first-principles calculations of correlated quantum materials, including moiré excitonics, electron-phonon coupling in kagome superconductors, and topological quantum states. He has published more than 40 papers as a first or corresponding author in journals including PNAS, Physical Review Letters, JACS, and National Science Review.

🔬 About the Presentation

The presentation will explore generalized Wigner crystals (GWCs) in transition-metal dichalcogenide (TMD) moiré superlattices and the emergence of Wigner crystalline excitons (WCEs) under photoexcitation.

Using large-scale first-principles GW-Bethe-Salpeter equation (GW-BSE) calculations on systems containing nearly 10,000 atoms per supercell, the study examines WCEs in an angle-aligned MoSe₂/MoS₂ moiré heterostructure at different hole fillings.

The work investigates how symmetry-breaking charge order influences excited states and how strong electron-hole interactions shape exciton behavior. The study also proposes photocurrent tunneling microscopy (PTM) as a potential experimental approach for directly visualizing correlated electron-hole pair distributions.

The research provides a computational framework for studying correlated excited-state phenomena in moiré quantum matter and explores Wigner crystalline excitons as a platform for investigating many-body interactions.
