M-Nano 2026 Featured Research | Advancing Cancer Treatment with Graphene Quantum Dots

Breakthroughs in nanotechnology are opening new possibilities for precision medicine, and M-Nano 2026 is proud to feature research at the forefront of this transformation.

Prof. Paulo Cesar De Morais from the Catholic University of Brasilia, Brazil, will deliver a Virtual Keynote Presentation titled "Manipulating Graphene Quantum Dots for Oncological Application." His work explores how graphene quantum dots (GQDs) can be engineered to improve cancer diagnosis and treatment through innovative nanotechnology-based approaches.

The presentation will discuss the development of halogen-functionalized graphene quantum dots (X@GQDs) with enhanced optical and biomedical characteristics. These advanced nanomaterials have demonstrated significant potential as photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy (PDT), enabling more precise destruction of cancer cells while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.

Attendees will gain insights into the mechanisms by which light-activated graphene quantum dots generate reactive oxygen species, making them promising tools for targeted cancer therapy. The research also highlights the broad biomedical applications of GQDs, including bioimaging, biosensing, photothermal therapy, and next-generation nanomedicine, reinforcing their importance in the future of oncology.
