Exploring Nanocrystals in Lithium Fluoride: A Nuclear Physics Perspective

·         Innovative Experimental Approach: Samples were irradiated under neutron flux, gamma-quanta, and electron beams to study nuclear reactions and their role in material transformation.

·         Nanostructure Formation: Advanced imaging revealed pyramidal micro-tracks (1–5 μm) and nano-hillocks (10–300 nm) created by particle interactions.

·         Chemical and Structural Shifts:

o    Detection of impurity atoms (B, C, O, H) in irradiated crystals.

o    Emergence of new nanocrystalline phases such as LiT, LiBH2, LiBH4, and (LiF)₂(B₂O₃)₃.

·         Scientific Impact: This study confirms that nuclear reaction products directly contribute to nanocrystalline phase transformation and chemical composition changes in irradiated LiF materials.

With a career spanning over five decades, Prof. Elvira Memetovna Ibragimova is a leading expert in radiation physics and material science. She earned her PhD in 1975, DrSci in 2000, and Professorship in 2019. Her portfolio includes supervising multiple PhD candidates, leading international collaborations, and authoring ~90 peer-reviewed publications. Her contributions to understanding irradiation effects on advanced materials have earned her several prestigious awards.
