Thermomechanical Transformations for Thermoelasticity and Superelasticity in Shape Memory Alloys

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Osman Adiguzel from Firat University, Turkey, will be delivering an insightful presentation at the International Congress on Materials Science and Nanotechnology, scheduled to take place on November 20-22, 2025, at Village Hotel Changi, Singapore, with both in-person and online participation options.

About the Presentation

Shape memory alloys (SMAs) are among the most fascinating classes of smart materials, capable of responding to external stimuli by altering their shapes in a reversible manner. Dr. Adiguzel’s talk, titled “Thermomechanical Transformations for Thermoelasticity and Superelasticity in Shape Memory Alloys”, will focus on the fundamental mechanisms governing these unique behaviors.

The presentation will highlight how SMAs exhibit shape memory effect through thermal and stress-induced martensitic transformations. At low temperatures, deformation leads to stored strain energy, which is later released upon heating, enabling the material to recover its original shape. This process, often described as thermal memory or thermoelasticity, is complemented by superelasticity, where alloys revert to their original form under constant temperature after mechanical stressing.

Dr. Adiguzel will also share findings from x-ray and electron diffraction studies conducted on copper-based alloys such as CuAlMn and CuZnAl. These investigations reveal complex layered structures and superlattice reflections, offering deeper insights into atomic rearrangements, lattice twinning, and martensitic transformations that define the remarkable properties of SMAs.

About the Speaker

Dr. Osman Adiguzel is an esteemed physicist with a career spanning over 45 years in academia and research. He graduated from Ankara University in 1974, earned his PhD from Dicle University, and pursued post-doctoral studies at Surrey University, UK. He has published over 80 research papers, supervised several PhD and MSc theses, and contributed extensively as a keynote and invited speaker at more than 120 international and national conferences. Even after his retirement in 2019, he continues to actively engage with the global scientific community, especially through numerous online conferences during the pandemic years.
