Title
: Designing and Managing Integration and Interoperability of
Intelligent and Ethical Ecosystems, Demonstrated for the Health Domain
Healthcare systems worldwide are
transforming toward Personalized, Preventive, Predictive, Participative
Precision Medicine (5PM). This innovative healthcare model focuses on understanding
each individual’s genetic, environmental, and behavioral context to provide
proactive and personalized care.
Understanding Healthcare Transformation
Modern
healthcare is shifting from a reactive model to a proactive system.
Instead of simply treating diseases, healthcare professionals are now focusing
on predicting health risks and preventing illnesses before they occur. This
transformation is driven by cutting-edge technologies and interdisciplinary
collaboration.
Role of Emerging Technologies
Several
advanced technologies support this transformation, including:
•
Artificial Intelligence for clinical decision support
• Micro- and Nanotechnologies for precision treatments
• Advanced Computing and data analytics
• Robotics and autonomous medical systems
• Knowledge management systems for digital health records
While
these innovations create powerful opportunities, they also introduce challenges
related to ethics, security, and system governance.
Interoperability and System Integration
Healthcare
ecosystems involve many different systems, stakeholders, and disciplines.
Ensuring that these systems communicate effectively is critical for efficient
healthcare delivery.
To
address this challenge, the research introduces a system-theoretical,
architecture-centric approach that enables interoperability across complex
digital ecosystems. This approach ensures seamless communication between
technologies, healthcare institutions, and scientific domains.
ISO 23903 Reference Architecture
The
research has led to the development of the ISO 23903 Interoperability and
Integration Reference Architecture. This framework provides a structured
model for integrating diverse systems and enabling knowledge exchange across
multiple domains.
The
architecture has already been applied in several scientific fields, including
medicine, environmental science, astrophysics, nanotechnology, and education.
Key Takeaways
The
development of intelligent and ethical ecosystems will play a critical role in
the future of healthcare. By combining technology, standardized architectures,
and ethical governance, healthcare systems can become more efficient,
collaborative, and patient-centered.
